What Is The Mental Agility Challenge?

The Mental Agility Challenge uses a new approach I developed to help you win more high stake matches without practicing harder, and without using time-consuming and exhausting exercises that use up all your willpower.

You gain gradual but transformational insights that help you understand what to do to improve your performance and well-being in 28 days or less.

So you stop feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and stressed before big competitions…

You stop making stupid mistakes in crucial moments.

You stop getting tight whenever the stakes are high.

You stop torturing yourself with self-deprecating thoughts every time you miss a shot.

You stop experiencing nervous ticks that interfere with your natural game.

Instead, you learn to become super focused and engaged during big points.

You raise your level of play in moments that matter.

You thrive during pressure-filled moments that crumble your opponents

By the end of the 28-day Mental Agility Challenge, you compete well under pressure and win more matches.

More importantly, you rediscover your love and passion for competitive sports!

So you enjoy training hard and preparing for tournaments.

You look forward to your matches, regardless if you are the favorite or the underdog.

You relax during your time off between practice sessions and during your off-season, without feeling guilty.

You sleep well at night.

And feel confident and fulfilled, both on- and off the court.

So how does the The Mental Agility Challenge work?

Should you accept this challenge, you will get one email per day, for 28 straight days, with a different mental agility task every day.

In each email, there will be one invaluable lesson that will trigger fresh thinking, new insights, and one exercise to put it all into practice.

You won’t have to read pages and pages of theory and stories.

Instead, you will get ONE simple exercise you can do to work on your mental agility that day.

You’ll usually need no more than 5-10 minutes to complete your daily task.

I will explain the theory behind the exercise, guide you through it step by step and tell you how, when, and where to best put it to use.

Why Mental Agility?

Mental Agility helps you become a better competitor who adapts to the many situations you face as an athlete.

For example, for a tennis player, this means:

  • Serving out matches without choking.
  • Converting more breakpoints without hitting silly unforced errors.
  • Digging deep into your mental resources, during tough matches, regardless of the score.
  • Recovering quickly from tough losses, losing streaks, and injuries, often returning to your next tournament even stronger than ever before (like Nadal just recently did).
  • Handling all the pressure of a professional tennis career (from parents, coaches, sponsors, and media) without harming your training, focus, or performance.
  • Improving your game so fast that everyone around you is stunned.
  • Loving your life, regardless of the many challenges you face.

Mental Agility works well for any competitive sport that involves pressure-filled moments and where you want to compete at your upper levels more consistently.

How I discovered Mental Agility.

Hi - that’s me in the middle of the picture, at the trophy ceremony of the Thailand Open, where I was both the tournament director and owner. To my left, two players I managed: Paradorn Srichaphan, the first Asian tennis player to break into the top 10, and Novak Djokovic.

My name is Allon, and I’ve been involved in the tennis world for the last 20 years:

I spent thousands of hours inside the world of professional tennis at practice courts, player boxes and tournament venues in various capacities:

  • As a tennis manager representing many world-class players, including three of the world’s best players (Novak Djokovic, Marat Safin, and Dinara Safina).
  • As a member of the ATP council for the last ten years.
  • As an owner of my own ATP tournament which was staged in Bangkok and Shenzhen, and featured players like Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray.

I had the opportunity to get to know and interact with famous players like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Maria Sharapova., as well as lower ranked players who never really succeeded to achieve their dreams.

I worked with clients from when they were juniors (I started working with Novak when he was 14) up until they became multiple grand-slam winners.

I also witnessed many extremely talented kids who couldn’t handle pressure and ended up having mediocre careers.

I saw how they trained, what they did before and after matches, and how they coped with all the ups and downs that shape the life of any athlete.

THERE WAS ONE THING THAT FASCINATED ME…

I noticed that most players train very similarly and that the very top tennis professionals are not more talented than everyone else, contrary to everyone’s beliefs, nor do they work harder.

Many of them don’t necessarily have more money or better coaches, at least early on in their careers…

Strangely, the seemingly most gifted and privileged players so often end up “wasting their talent”, and never make it onto the big stage, while other less distinguished players end up beating the odds and becoming world-class.

Take Novak for example:

He wasn’t viewed as a future prodigy by most tennis experts.

To complicate things, Novak also suffered from health and fitness issues, often struggling to finish 5 set matches.

In fact, even when he was #3 in the world, most people in the tennis world didn’t think he could seriously compete with Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer.

And yet…

Novak not only became the world #1, but he also stayed there for more weeks, months, and years than anyone else.

He might already be the greatest player of all time!

How was this transformation possible?

As sports agents, this is the critical question we need to ask ourselves so we can predict future stars.

Since my teens, I studied topics related to high performance and have consistently asked myself things like:

What separates the very best tennis players in the world from everyone?

What makes a player become world #1?

And what defines the few players who can stay at the top for many years?

I went on a journey. I read hundreds of books about high performance.

I reviewed scientific studies.

I attended seminars and online courses.

I talked to and observed all the best tennis players in the world. I also chatted with their coaches, agents, sponsors, and even ex-tennis players who dominated the ATP tour.

I observed them. Studied them. Thought deeply about what really separates them from everyone else.

EVENTUALLY, I NOTICED A SIMPLE YET PROFOUND TREND...

I discovered that what separates the top tennis players from everyone else is not widely talked about.

Because it’s not sexy, fun, or exciting to the media and the larger population.

At the same time, it is the ONE thing that can transform your career and make such a huge difference regardless of what sport you are pursuing, and regardless if you are playing club matches, future, professional tournaments, or Grand Slams.

It’s the ONE thing that helps the top tennis players train with more intensity so they get more bang for their bucks.

Win more without crumbling under pressure.

Dig deep and perform at their best when it matters most…

Come back even stronger from heartbreaking losses, painful losing streaks and career threatening injuries quickly.

Turn weaknesses into strengths, and reinvent themselves and their potential time after time…

Handle all the pressure of a professional sports career (from parents, coaches, sponsors, and media) without it hurting their training, focus, or performance.

And love their journey regardless of their results ( which paradoxically helps them win more).

You want to know the “secret” that lets them stay on top of their game - for years at a time?

Two words:

MENTAL AGILITY!

Let’s return back to Novak Djoković.

How did he become one of the best tennis players in the world, despite what everyone thought about him?

To me, the answer is pretty straightforward:

He was great at getting great!

Novak constantly improved as a tennis player and was always eager to finetune his game.

But that was not all.

He constantly transformed himself and his lifestyle.

For example, he changed his fitness regime and diet and eventually became one of the fittest players on tour.

He also started to practice mindfulness and meditation to become more focused, calm, and recover better.

When he was ranked 3rd in the world, behind Rafa and Roger, he didn’t say to himself that “this is just the way things are”.

He refused to accept the status quo.

Instead, he envisioned himself as the #1 tennis player in the world, analyzed what was holding him back from achieving that, and worked relentlessly to turn his weaknesses into strengths.

Throughout his career, he developed the kind of mental agility that let him adapt his thinking habits and lifestyle to continuously improve his skills and performance and get every drop out of possibilities.

Mental Agility is such a powerful trait, because it allows you to think deeper, and hold seemingly contradicting thoughts in your mind:

For an athlete this means:

  • Having big goals and yet being able to enter a match, completely detached from any outcome and hence feeling no pressure.
  • Training hard during practice and still having fun.
  • Recovering from losses, losing streaks, and injuries without losing the fire in the belly.
  • Using constructive feedback to continuously improve without losing confidence in your abilities.
  • Staying calm during key points of big tournaments without dropping your intensity.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DEVELOP MENTAL AGILITY?

Mental Agility allows you to learn difficult skills quickly, adapt to tough situations in real time and use your mental power to improve your experiences and your results as a high performer.

From the very start of the 28 day Mental Agility Challenge, you gain two life changing insights that will dramatically improve how you compete, and how you feel, on-and off the sports field.

Insight #1: Your wellbeing is the key ingredient for sustainable success!

Imagine you are the world’s best golfer, soccer player or tennis professional, but you feel miserable and depressed, hate what you do and feel tortured by anxious thoughts from the second you wake up until you go to sleep.

What’s the point of winning big trophies, tons of money and lots of fame, if you are unhappy?

Compare this to being an average athlete who loves every moment of your career, who feels excited when waking up in the morning, looks forward to practicing and competing, and is able to switch off while hanging out with friends and family.

Don’t worry, I am not saying you should not have big dreams and aim high:

To the contrary, I have seen time and again that the secret to a long term, sustainable career for so many athletes comes from prioritizing your mental health and wellbeing.

The reason for this is simple:

If how you feel depends on winning tennis matches and gaining the approval of people watching you, then your happiness and feelings of self-worth are at stake, every time you compete.

This creates immense pressure, and eventually becomes unbearable for so many athletes.

However, once you detach your wellbeing from outcomes you don’t even control, something interesting happens:

You rediscover your passion for competitive sport.

Instead of dreading big matches, you love pushing your limits, independent of outcomes and scores.

You stop feeling pressure, and handle the ups and downs of competitive sport, without torturing yourself with fears about the future, or regrets about the past.

Sure, you still lose matches, and you might even get upset from time to time.

However, you recover quickly from painful losses, gain valuable feedback from your performance, and return to your next event feeling confident, inspired and focused.

Insight #2: Wellbeing comes from within, not from status, trophies and money.

Do you remember moments where you felt awesome despite losing an important match?

You were able to hang out with friends, enjoy a movie or just relax in your hotel room, without replaying your performance in your mind, over and over again.

Now compare this to a time where you won a match, but still felt a little empty, disappointed and even down.

The only reason your feelings don’t always correlate with your results is because it's not ‘’the winning of a big match’’ or ‘’the getting a big check’’ that determine how you feel

Instead, it's your thoughts that do that for you.

For example, you could make yourself laugh right now, by thinking of a funny experience.

Or, you could make yourself cry, by recalling something sad and emotional.

Once you fully see that you are actually experiencing your own thoughts, it no longer makes sense to scare yourself while competing.

You also feel empowered, because you realize that enhancing your wellbeing and your ability to perform well under pressure, are just a couple of thoughts away.

During the 28 days Challenge, you gradually become more aware of the transient nature of your thinking, and your power to entertain and dismiss any thoughts you like.

You stop taking thoughts about expectations and the need to prove yourself too seriously.

And replace them with thoughts that support your wellbeing and performance.

Now it feels natural to play with more courage and spirit, regardless of the score.

And your level of performance jumps to the sky!

THIS IS WHY I CREATED THE 28 DAY MENTAL AGILITY CHALLENGE!

There is nothing more frustrating for an athlete than to practice extremely hard day in and day out, but keep losing matches they should be winning.

I have seen how humiliating it feels to athletes when trying to justify another painful loss to their coaches, sponsors, friends and families or to the press.

They work so hard, play extremely well in practice but then once they play important matches they keep crumbling under pressure.

These athletes lose hope and feel more discouraged with every new disappointment.

Often, their only way to relieve pressure is by self-sabotaging their careers, pretending they don’t care about results, for example by going out before big matches, not training properly and tanking matches the second things don’t go their way.

Deep down they know they are betraying themselves and their chance to fulfill their potential.

They experience so much pain and suffering that they stop enjoying competitive sport.

Many of them eventually give up very promising careers.

I surveyed hundreds of athletes about their biggest challenges to winning more, and what's remarkable is they all give me similar responses:

“I keep getting nervous before big points”.

“The harder I try, the worse I play”.

“Pressure makes me hate competing”.

“I’ve been trying to become mentally stronger for years, but I just don’t know what else I should do”.

“I just can’t perform in matches in the same way as I play when practicing”.

What breaks my heart is how these athletes know what’s holding them back, without having a clue what they can do:

But here is the good news:

Based on all the research I’ve done and everything I’ve seen over my 20 years on the ATP tour, I know that anyone can learn how to become more mentally agile.

It’s a skill that can be developed, just like you can develop your forehand, serve and net play.

In the exact same way that you can train your serve, forehand and net play, you can train your mind.

Scientists have shown that specific exercises can help you modify your brain to improve your memory, develop new skills faster and perform better in sports.

They also discovered that within a few weeks of regular training, your brain becomes more fluid, adaptable and stronger.

However, as with every new skill, getting started and building some momentum can be the hardest part.

And that’s exactly why I have created a 28 day challenge.

I could have given you all the insights and exercises in an ebook and then hope you make a plan and stick to it every day.

However, my goal is to make this as simple and easy as possible for you, so you know exactly what you need to do, without feeling overwhelmed.

I know that through insights and understanding, your thinking will gradually shift, and you stop putting yourself under the kind of pressure that paralyzes your performance.

Instead of just consuming information, you’ll have a training program that helps you get started, build momentum and trigger the kind of upward spiral that makes winning more inevitable.

You’ll gain daily valuable insights that serve you beyond sport, triggering life changing shifts that make you happier, more resilient and more focused.

You’ll get a gentle nudge (or strong kick in the butt, depending on how you want to perceive it) every day to keep you on track.

You’ll have a deep understanding of what drives wellbeing and performance:

The bottom line:

In 28 days or less, you will become a much stronger and more resilient competitor!

Once you have completed the 28-Day Challenge, you can pick and choose the most valuable challenges, like from a tasty buffet, and integrate them into your life.

Even if you pick just 2 of these strategies and apply them to your daily practice - you’ll continue to truly upgrade your career.

You win more matches, climb the rankings, and compete at even bigger events, without working harder and without straining your willpower.

Most importantly: You love every moment of your career and radiate a sense of joy and satisfaction that makes your competitors watch you in awe, wishing they knew the secret behind your transformation!
